Lux PRima, Danger Mouse and Karen O on IMR

Lux Prima by Karen O & Danger Mouse

This is an addictive album, that in my opinion shouldn’t be put down.  Danger Mouse and O present a cinematic and psychedelic meandering of the soul.  I find so many undertones of Portishead and early trip-hop acts.  Ministry is a knockout, so slow and ambient, accompanied by a thumping groove that pulls you closer every listen.

I’m learning more about my musical love affair with Karen O, the front woman for the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs.  She is captured in such a transparent version of herself on this album that is much more reflective, softer than the wild songstress galavanting across the stage.  Her voice is layered and textured, I was floored.  there are still the energetic tracks, however, they have been contained and presented in a much more soulful and polished vibe.  “Woman” is dangerous, rollicking and a bit over the top, but the passion and energy is up front, the groove is fantastical.

Oh my mister Mouse, mister Danger Mouse.  Danger Mouse is everywhere and seemingly nowhere.  I’m sure you have heard his production and really just not know it.  He has worked with Gnarls Barkley, Broken Bells and Danger Doom as well as with Adele, The Black Keys, Gorillaz, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Portugal, The Mancorrect …. just to name a few.  That said this is being heralded as more of a passion project for the artist, being something personal.  The instrumentation, production is spectacular.  If you can, take an evening and digest this album.  I have so much appreciation.
