From Where You Are by Hannah Connolly

The remarkably raw Hannah Connolly has joined the Village and we are honored to be able to introduce you to this new talent. Hailing from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Hannah shares a heartrending sonic experience in her new song “From Where You Are.”

Hannah parcels out the burden of grief in this beautiful memoir about coping with the unimaginable loss of her brother. Fragile vocals breathe life into this acoustic offering while the poignant lyrics “I can’t fall asleep, I can’t see it clearly. Maybe when I wake, this will all be over…I’m too tired to hide the tears in my eyes. Doesn’t quite feel real, maybe I’m just dreaming” bring a mournful melody to our souls. In sharing the gift of this incredibly personal story with us, Connolly is reminiscent of the songwriting bravery of artists like Kacey Musgraves and Julien Baker.

On the track Connolly says, “This was one of the first songs written for the album and it speaks to how I felt in the days and months after losing Cullen. In the midst of shock and disbelief, life felt like a strange dream. The whole world was turned upside down and none of it made sense. One of the most vivid memories I have from that time was standing in the desert and looking up at the stars.”

“From Where You Are” is the first offering from Connolly’s debut album due out later this year.
