If Only by The Coo

Vocally this is hauntingly similar to Joni Mitchell, the 2 part harmonies are delicate and reflective of the piece. This is a tear jerker, stepping into ones movement out of isolation and harbouring the guilt of a desire to move on.

If Only is lush vocally, however the instrumentation is simple, the slight resonance in the chorus plays delicately with the harmonics showcased by the shared lyric.

The Coo’s, Matt Arthur and Jara Holdert, met in Amsterdam at an open mic. This chance meeting and subsequent connection has brought us something out of the 60’s, an honestly poetic and deceptively romantic collaboration that I will be listening to for years to come.
