Three Little Birds by Echo Bloom

A brilliantly written post-apocalyptic tale woven into the fabric and sonic webbing of their latest album (Wake) and this new single, Three Little Birds, by American songwriters Echo Bloom.

Three Little Birds is the telling of the aftermath of destruction, sharing ever so eloquently the ever-present visuals… “No more bark on the suicide trees / Just gold and pearls / Dinosaur bones / Colors all washed to monochrome.”

This tune has the energy of a Leonard Cohen track, with the soul and meandering of Iron & Wine or other cabin-pop artists. The main vocal by Kyle Evans is warm and restless, while the instrumentation is eclectic, and textured with hints of culture at every turn. I loved hearing and learning of drummer, Cody Rahn’s kit: a mishmash of found metal – hubcaps, aluminum foil and wing nuts, these build the perfect percussive texture for this thematic track. The band is then rounded out flawlessly with Aviva Jaye, and Alex Minier.
