Released on January 26th, 2018 on Big Legal Mess the duo of Justin Peter Kinkel-Schuster (Water Liars) and Will Johnson (Centromatic) combine to form a swarthy couple of folk-rock veterans.
The Neil Young-esque power guitar rocking on the track “Inverness,” is a gritty homage to the weathered performer. This track also presents a slight pop/grunge edge that escalates in the bounce throughout the chorus.
There are many softer moments on the album and any Calexico, or Drive By Truckers fan should be moderately satisfied. I appreciate the balance between these eclectic songwriters, both switching lead vocal duties and backing each other so harmoniously.
The guitar tone, subtle hooks and smooth cadence in “the Rail” is a hit, and definitely a stand out on the album.
