“Defiance” was the lead single from their recent indie-folk EP Capsize, produced by Chris Jacobie (Penny & Sparrow, Jarrod Dickenson, Duncan Fellows). Written as a battle cry, standing up for the powerless who can’t speak up for themselves, the song’s message aims to say “we won’t be quiet anymore” and to vocalize the cries of anyone who has been victimized or oppressed.
Whether they are working alongside a Grammy-nominated producer in Los Angeles or writing songs with stories that resonate with listeners of all generations, the mother-daughter duo of Cliffs and Caves isn’t shy about using their music to tell deeply personal and relatable stories. Made up of Lindsey Justice and her sixteen year old daughter Claire, the pair offers up a unique blend of Indie-folk music inspired by their combined musical influences: Ben Howard, Bonnie Raitt, Fleetwood Mac, and Noah Gunderson.
Lindsey and Claire are preparing to launch the duo’s sophomore EP, entitled Capsize. The original songs are a team effort with Lindsey creating most of the lyrics and melodies while Claire, a multi-instrumentalist, composed the music for the tracks. The process was overseen by producer Chris Jacobie (Penny and Sparrow, Jarrod Dickenson, Duncan Fellow) in his San Antonio studio.
Their debut EP released in 2017, and was recorded in Los Angeles with Grammy-nominated producer Jamie Candiloro (Ryan Adams, R.E.M., Eagles) featuring performances by legendary Willie Nelson harmonica player, Mickey Raphael.
